Twenty-five Years Experience as a Trial Lawyer

John W. Schilt has a varied practical background which serves well in identifying with both judges and juries. He can articulate your position with utmost clarity. From the complex to the mundane, he strives to serve the client's needs and preserve the dignity of both the client and the legal profession.

Mr. Schilt is licensed to practice law in South Dakota, Minnesota and California. He is registered with numerous Federal Courts in several jurisdictions. He is also a licensed real estate agent, contractor, and pilot. Mr. Schilt is also fluent in German. Mr. Schilt has taught various subjects to Engineering, General and Specialty Contractors, preparing them for the California State Contractor's Exam. Subjects include General Contract Law, Mechanic's Lien Law, and Accounting and Finance (2002-2007). With an M.B.A. in Management and Finance, John has successfully run several businesses including an Advertising Agency (1979-1989) and General Building Contractor (1986-1994).

Mr. Schilt is married and has two children. Currently, he spends his free time coaching Little League baseball and serves for the City of Pinole, California, Economic Development and Housing Advisory Commission. Mr. Schilt is also Chief Liaison Office for Charter School Development and Feasibility in the City of Pinole.

ANN HARDING BATTIN

Ann Harding Battin, long both an Attorney and a licensed Real Estate Broker, specializes in business and real estate matters, as well as litigation. On one end of the spectrum of her current practice is bankruptcy, handling both debtor and creditor's issues. On the other end, she has extensive experience in drafting wills and trusts, and probate matters such as settling estates, guardianships and conservatorships.

Ms. Battin received her Bachelor's degree at the University of California, Berkeley; her Master of Fine Arts degree from New York University and her law degree from UC Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. She and her family are residents of El Sobrante, CA, although her son, an Eagle Scout, has ‘aged' out of Boy Scouts, Ms. Battin remains active as an adult Scouter and Merit Badge Counselor. She is an assistant Troop leader for her daughter's Senior Girl Scout Troop and is looking forward to assisting her daughter's ‘journey' to her GSA Gold Award. Ms. Battin enjoys camping, hiking and just being outdoors.

Ms. Battin is a member of the State Bar of California, the Contra Costa County Bar Association and its Real Estate Section, as well as the Solano County Bar Association.

NEGAR PIRZADEH

Prior to joining Tenax Law, Ms. Pirzadeh worked as an Associate Attorney for plaintiff s litigation firm handling significant trial work. Negar Pirzadeh specializes in the areas of Employment and Business law. Ms. Pirzadeh's practice encompasses all areas of employment law, including wage-and-hour violations, as well as discrimination, harassment, trade secret theft, wrongful discharge, and retaliation claims. Ms. Pirzadeh has experience in advising companies and individuals on a wide range of corporate and small business transactions including entity formation, and buy/sell agreements.

Ms. Pirzadeh received her JD from Golden Gate University School of Law, with certificates in Business law and Intellectual Property. While attending Golden Gate University School of Law, she received CALI awards for Legal Writing and Research; California Legal Research; Business Associations; and Intellectual Property Law. Ms. Pirzadeh obtained her MBA from University of Pacific, Eberhardt School of Business, and her Bachelor of Science from University of California, Davis.

In her free time, Ms. Pirzadeh enjoys spending time with her family; running; traveling; discovering new places to eat; social events; and spending time with her dogs. Ms. Pirzadeh is fluent in Farsi.

DENNIS PHILLIPS

Dennis A. Phillips graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in United States History.

After working for a few years in the technology sector for a small software company, Mr. Phillips attended the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, graduating in 2000 with a concentration in Intellectual Property.  Mr. Phillips has been practicing law since 2001 and is admitted to practice in state court as well as Federal Court for the Northern District of California.

Mr. Phillips has developed his experience in Landlord/Tenant disputes (including Rent Controlled/Just Cause cities such as San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland and most recently Richmond), Restraining Orders and General Civil Litigation.

LAUREN JOHNSON

Lauren D. Johnson is a seasoned attorney experienced in various areas of civil litigation including product liability, personal injury and business and employment law. In her employment law practice, Ms. Johnson represents both plaintiffs and employers in litigation involving wage-and-hour violations, discrimination, harassment, trade secret theft, wrongful discharge and retaliation claims.  She is also skilled in Alternative Dispute Resolution and settlement negotiation. Ms. Johnson also provides extensive employment and business law consultation and services to corporate clients.

Ms. Johnson obtained a B.A in History and a B.A in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley. After graduation, Lauren worked as a market analyst at a management consulting firm based in London, UK. She later obtained her Juris Doctorate from USC School of Law. While attending USC School of Law, Ms. Johnson was appointed a Legion Lex Scholar and received a USC Public Interest Law Grant.

Ms. Johnson is a member of the Board of Directors for Heaven’s Door Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides support services to women who have been diagnosed with cancer. Ms. Johnson provides pro bono legal services and grant writing assistance to the organization.

April C. Ball, Esq. has been an attorney for 18 years, and is licensed to practice law in California and New York.

April received her B.S. in Accounting at California State University, Northridge.  She attended law school at California Western School of Law, and then received her Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law.  After graduation, April worked for the accounting firm of KPMG LLP as a tax specialist for high net-worth individuals, and then for law firms where she sharpened her transactional law skills by creating and running a large law firm’s transactional department.  April also worked as Senior Attorney Editor for Thomson Reuters Westlaw. There she drafted templates for corporate and LLC agreements as well as practice guides to be used by lawyers in multiple jurisdictions.

With April’s vast knowledge and experience, she assists clients in various areas of business creation, contract negotiation, agreement drafting, licensing arrangements, corporate governance and business planning.  In her estate planning practice, April guides clients in establishing their wishes in a tax-preferred manner while affording peace of mind for the client and the client’s loved ones. She also represents clients in real estate transactions and trust administration cases.

When not practicing law, April enjoys exploring the Bay Area with her family, volunteering for local elementary schools, assisting in the Read to Succeed program, and practicing yoga.
